SpriteDesigner by Magic Storm

Long time I thought about publishing it, I know it is not documented so most people will think this is not a good program because they don't know the features, but let me tell you, we worked 4 years on it, and always included new stuff (this is why the GUI looks so awful) and it has a lot of powerful features for Srpite Designing.

This is a mirror topic, the same is in DelphiSanctuary.com, I decided to publish this one, because so many people helped me the last time and perhaps others can use this program.

So it is Freeware now and Open Source, anybody can use it for comercial or non comercial stuff, and everybody can use the code. If somebody finds it useful, give us some feedback here :D

So here a screen:

And here the Link:

I'll add some screens and some explanations, feel free to ask any question.

Lesson 1: Loading, saving, Drawing

We created a first version 4 years ago for our game 'Xenidis'. Then during our next game 'TombClimber' we added lots of specials. We really used this program and made nearly all grafix in both games with it.

We tried some other programs, but none had the features we needed:

Draw in a big window to able able to set each single pixel, having multiple images at once (we have 16), copy from one image to another, view animations etc.

Loading: Left Click on one of the small pictureboxes at the bottom

Bild

Saving: Right Click on one of the small pictureboxes at the bottom

Drawing: Choose a tool on the left side, first one is a simple pencil. click the pencil, then go to the big picture box and use the left mouse button to draw with color 1, right mouse button to draw color 2. On the right top you see a lot of color bars, left click them to set color one or right click for color 2. Selector 1 and Selector 2 open color pickers for both colors.

Bild

This was simple and nothing special. Lesson One over and out.

Lesson 2: Choosing an image and copying it

Hello,

Click into the Checkbox 'Bild 2', Bild is german for Image. If many people are interested, we can translate this prog to english.

The big image is still showing Image 1, because both are selected.
If you would check out 'Bild 1', you would see Bild 2 on the big image, which is empty. But keep both checked and click the little grey panel right from 'Bild 1'. This panel now copies the first image into the second imagebox. So you could alter Image 2 to make an animation or something.

Bild

So you can use 16 images at one time, and switch between them, if you draw on the big imagebox and Bild 1 is selected, you only draw in Bild 1, if Bild1 & Bild2 are selected, you can draw in both!

L2 over!

Lesson 3: Making a filled circle with nice dark effect

Hello,

now go to the main menu and choose File|New.

Then go on the left side to the tools and choose the third one, a circle (says Kreis).

Go to the big imagebox, and keep the left mousebutton pressed where you want to have the left top point of your circle, keep it pressed and move the mouse slowly bottom right.

On the right side there is a little help image which shows you the progress. When you release the mouse button, it draws a filled circle with the selected color.

Okay, now to the 2nd part. Go to the 9th tool, which says spotlight.

Then goto the big imagebox, try to find the middle of the image (the coordinates are displayed right beside the big image, your image is defined 80x80, this can of course be changed) and left click.

All pixels are checked and those far away made darker. Click again until you like the result.

L3 is done!

Lesson 4: Make some Noise (Perlin Noise)

Hello,

now switch the tabs on the right to 'Partikel',
then edit the textbox 'Random' and insert a 6 or something, you must use the num block numbers, because the normal numbers switch your tools!

Then press noisebody. The image is being 'noised', but only the body.

Bild

Then press 'Blur' two times. You now have some kind of cloud, you can draw some black holes in it or press 'Löchern' to make some random holes and blur again etc.

Bild

L4 over.

Hello,

welcome to Lesson 5: Basic Light Pixel Manipulation.

I'll create a a square and let's see, what I can do with it in a minute.

First choose the Tool 'Quadrat' (Square) pressing '4' or clicking the 4th tool.

Choose a color and leftclick on the paintbox, move the mouse keeping it pressed until you are done, watch on the right the small image to see how you are doing. Release when you are done.

Bild

Choose another color.
Then choose the 8th tool 'Wolke' or click the 8th tool, it's kind of spray.
Keep left mouse button clicked and spray your rectangle.

Bild

Choose the last tool 'Spotligh vertical'. Go to the middle of the screen and then click a few times until you are happy with it.

Bild

Now we'll add some handdrawn stuff.
Under the color selector there is a small panel which says 'Farbe 3' with a trackbar under it. Move the trackbar to the left for drawing dark, and to the right for drawing light, then you can draw the underground, just manipulation the light values. Click the Panel 'Farbe 3' which says '-5' or something now to use normal color drawing later.

Choose the pencil (1st tool) again and draw on your paintbox, see the background getting lighter or darker.

If you change the tabcontrol on the right to 'Muster' you can set an Penwidth there, use a higher Penwidth to draw with a bigger pencil.

Bild

Lesson 5 done.

Hello,

this is no lesson, it is just how to change the language.

It now supports German and English, change it in the options.
A restart maybe required after changing the language.
If there is anybody interested, I can enhance the GUI a bit, add some
hints in the program and make some new lessons.

Cya :D
